I suppose that thousands of messages and lessons have been taught and discussed regarding this phrase from Esther 4:14. I have enjoyed meditating on it for a couple of days now. I must admit the reason behind my recent infatuation with this phrase came from the movie, “One Night With the King”. Kacey and I rented it two nights ago and watched it. If you haven’t seen it, I would recommend it. It, of course, adds an element of Hollywood, but the main message of Esther shines through this movie.
I am challenged by Esther’s love for her people. The risk she took to go before the king convicts me in my own lack of concern for those around me who are facing sure death of the eternal kind. Had she not set her own convenience aside and acted so selflessly, the Jews would most surely have been slaughtered. I find it interesting what Esther’s cousin, Mordecai, had to say in 4:14, “If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives wil die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” (NLT)
Why are we here in 2007? The most technologically advanced civilizations to ever exist on earth are thriving today. You are here today for a reason. You were made to enhance and enjoy the Kingdom of the Almighty God, Jehovah. You are here today for just such a time as this! What are you doing with the assets of the day? The Apostle Paul used ships, snakes, burning lamps, pens, and parchment paper. What do you have for Kingdom resources at your disposal? Yes, if you fall silent and are only concerned for your own well-being, God will raise someone up to declare His Good News. But why not you? God doesn’t need you. He created you and is calling you to action, because He wants to share Himself with you! Wow!
What will you do with such a time as this?
